We're Back!
We’re back! Formerly known as “An Ounce of Prevention” the Quinnipiack Valley Health District (QVHD) would like to reintroduce ourselves with the start of our new column, “QVHD Connections”. While many are familiar with our department, other’s often question “what is QVHD?” when they encounter our logo outside local restaurants or run into staff at community events. So, LET’S CONNECT!
QVHD is the local health district for the towns of Bethany, Hamden, North Haven & Woodbridge. Located right on Hartford Turnpike in North Haven, our department, small but mighty, is made up of 9 full-time staff members, who all play a role in maintaining the health of our community.
A common misconception is that health departments provide direct healthcare to treat personal medical issues. While we work to promote and protect the health of our residents and the environment in which we live, in the world of public health, we work to prevent illness or injury from occurring in the first place! Whether it’s through community education on preparedness, inspecting restaurants to ensure food safety or preventing disease outbreaks, QVHD is dedicated to ensuring our community is one in which people can live healthy.
While there are many aspects of public health, we are proud to serve and protect our district residents. We look forward to sharing our efforts and including you all along the way—feel free to reach out to us on social media with any comments or topics of interest . Stay tuned for exciting trainings, wellness tips & more.
